Native only to the mountains of Crete, dittany, is derived from the Greek words "Dikti" and "thamnus" meaning the bush of mountain Dikti. In Cretan dialect it is also known as Erondas, which is actually a derivation from the word 'eros’, the name of Greek God of love. Dittany is a love symbol and shows sexual desire and fertility.
Dittany is the king of Cretan herbs, because of its rich properties. It is ideal for nice smelling breath, against indigestion and due to its antiseptic properties against cold symptoms. It is ideal tea for lovers! It can be served hot or cold.
Dittany leaves can also be used as a patch for external wounds and bleedings.
How to make Dittany Tea: Put one tea spoon of Dittany leaves directly in the bottom of a ceramic tea cup. Add boiling water and let it steep for 3’. Remember to cover your tea cup with a small plate in order to keep all smell and therapeutic benefits inside. Strain and serve with honey and some lemon juice drops. Enjoy it hot or cold. Avoid Dittany tea during pregnancy.
